I am very excited to hear about the efforts being made to bring a Clubhouse project to Victoria. As a mother of a fine young man who suffers from mental illness, I speak with the full experience of 37 years. (I typed “tears” first instead of “years”, which isn’t a mistake, really). Most of the time, people who suffer from mental illness and their families are alone when it comes to finding adequate support. What valuable lives are being subdued or lost by this gap in proper care. The Clubhouse would be a huge blessing to our community and to all the people who are touched by mental illness.

Connections Place serves the communities of southern Vancouver Island and the south Gulf Islands that are located in the traditional territories of the Lkwungen (Esquimalt and Songhees), Malahat, Pacheedaht, Scia’new, T’Sou-ke and W̱SÁNEĆ (Pauquachin, Tsartlip, Tsawout, Tseycum) peoples.
We acknowledge our traditional hosts and honour their graciousness to the Clubhouse community and the ways we work, socialize, and advocate for wellness on these ancestral lands.
